Thin film Analysis

 TFA-2 Thin Film Analyzer

Thin films are the main elements of a foam or emulsions and therefore a characterization of their main properties, i.e. the thickness and the stability, is essential. The TFA provides such measurements.

TFA-2 Thin Film Analyzer

Thin films are the main elements of a foam or emulsions and therefore a characterization of their main properties, i.e. the thickness and the stability, is essential. The TFA provides such measurements. The thickness of foam films is measured by an interferometric method. The stability studies are done with the same and via a camera mounted to the used inverse microscope the process of film thinning, the appearance of black spots and black films can be recorded.

Key Facts

Principle is based on the well-known Thin Liquid Film – Pressure Balance Technique.

Microscopic foam and emulsion films are obtained in a modified Scheludko-Exerowa cell, especially designed for best compatibility within the compact architecture of this instrument.

film thickness is measured interferometrically.

instrument is equipped with a digital camera and allows simultaneous observation of the film and measurement of its thickness, both controlled by a modern Windows software.

Hardware

Instrumental parts

  • • Inverse microscope equipped with a digital camera and
    - monochromatic light source
    - photo sensor module
  • • Temperature controlled measuring cell in two modifications allowing:
                i) formation of a film at constant capillary pressure
ii) application of external pressure on the film
    •  Pressure control unit
