Instrument choice should follow the physics of the interface.

Profile analysis tensiometers provide a general platform when the complete evolution of a drop or bubble must be resolved across seconds to hours, when liquid–liquid interfaces are central or when controlled volume changes are used to perturb an adsorption layer.

Maximum bubble pressure instruments provide a complementary measurement window when the primary scientific question concerns adsorption at very short surface ages. The experimental question should therefore determine the measurement strategy before a particular instrument platform is selected.
